The New Need for Speed will be called just Need for Speed

Need for Speed is getting a complete reboot to the point where it will be ditching recycled subtitles. Indeed, the new game – due out on the PlayStation 4 later this year – will be named Need for Speed. No, there's nothing after that – it's literally just called Need for Speed.

As with Need for Speed: Rivals, the racer is being developed by Swedish studio Ghost Games, and will be using the Frostbite Engine. The press release states that the title will deliver on everything that fans want: customization, urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative.

"Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we're returning it to greatness in this reboot," said executive producer Marcus Nilsson. "Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game that we've always wanted to. We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination."

Need for Speed will be released in autumn for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
